A collaboration between sisters that merges sacred intentions.
"Cami Co. Lace", founded by Cameran Nichole in 2016, is a hand-made custom apparel manufacturer that specializes in culture, artistry, and community.
"blackwomxnhealing" is an intergenerational wellness collective founded by Dr. ReeLaviolette Botts-Ward in 2015 that uses art and ritual to support the holistic healing of Black women.
Together, we are honored to launch AWAKENED, a collaboration between sisters that merges these sacred intentions.
Each AWAKENED piece is a culmination of our collective healing epiphanies. A blend of Cami's creative eye and Dr. Ree's poetics, we arrived at words that would be a healing balm for us both, and for folks who have been in community. We hope that each AWAKENED piece will be a catalyst for continued healing conversations in your own life, and serve as an invitation into deeper awakening.
– the journey –
Cami was her little sister's first introduction to sisterhood and the sacred art of self-expression. Dr. Ree grew up admiring how gifted of a big sister she had -- one who hand-made an entire two-piece crocheted suit for her third grade project. As she grew older, Dr. Ree found her own creative gift and path through poetry; she started writing her first book in the journal that Cami hand-made and gifted for her fourteenth birthday.
As we each grew into women, we fortified our paths and cheered each other on every step of the way. We followed in our mother’s footsteps and attended Spelman College together. Cami graduated (c.o 2014) with an Economics degree, returned to her artistry, and founded Cami co Lace soon after. Dr. Ree graduated (c.o of 2015) with a Sociology and Anthropology degree, moved to California for grad school, and founded blackwomxnhealing soon after. Where blackwomxnhealing was founded on the sacredness of sisterhood, Cami co Lace was founded on self-love, expression, cultural heritage, and communal pride.
AWAKENED serves as a sacred merging of our multiple sites of love; our love for ourselves, our love for each other, our love for the sacred work we do in the world, and our love for our lineage. As such, this collaboration is the culmination of many years of sisterhood healing, and a beautiful lifetime of awakening.
– the healing –
Each AWAKENED design is birthed from our deep dialogues about life paths and epiphanies, which have led to profound intergenerational healing.
Over the past ten years, we’ve spent countless hours processing our past together. As we’ve uncovered childhood traumas, triggers, dysregulations, and core wounds, we’ve arrived at words that would be a healing balm to us both. Somewhere along the way, we thought that you all, our beloved community, might benefit from our epiphanies, too.
A blend of Dr. Ree's poetics and Cami's creative eye, these words are woven together to serve as a reminder of our own divinity. When we look at ourselves in an AWAKENED design we are grounded into a sacred remembrance of our beautiful journeys towards awakening.
We are so honored to invite you to join us on this AWAKENED journey. With every purchase of an AWAKENED piece, you are supporting our sacred work, and affirming your own commitment to deeper awakenings. It is our hope that when you wear your AWAKENED design you feel rooted, grounded, affirmed, and connected to your own sacred intentions.
– the gratitude –
We would like to extend our deepest gratitudes to our mother, Colette LaViolette, for birthing us, gifting us wings, and showing us how to fly. To our Granma Mamie, who chuckled ‘till she cried when we’d dance and sing ourselves silly as small kids while she lay sickly in her hospice bed. To our Grannie Annie, whom we never had the honor of hugging in the flesh, yet, who is ever present through the ancestral realm in the heart of our healing encounters.
& To our father, Vincent Wayne, who held our hands when we got scared, whose love is still an overflow. To his mother, our Granma Ethel Mae, who passed away before we were born, who sends sacred messages through flames and through whispers, and while big sister’s at the sewing machine. & To her mother, our Grannie Bessie Dean. We love you. We thank you each for life. And for blessing our journeys aligned..
